Random Acts of Kindness Day!
The Many Benefits of Doing Random Acts of Kindness! Make 2015 the Year to “Do Something”!
I love that song by Mathew West called “Do Something” I sing it often, and it is so inspiring, yet I sing it while I’m just sitting down in the car really doing nothing!
On Monday December 28th, 2014 Alex, Ellie, and I planned to spend the day doing random acts of kindness. We didn’t really have a plan, but we were going to head out to make it happen somehow. The night before I invited a friend, who is also a realtor, to come with. She is always super busy so I figured she couldn’t come. She immediately said she was coming and so we set out that chilly morning.
Our 1st stop was the QT where we purchased breakfast sandwiches and coffees and drove around downtown until we gave them all away. It was amazing to see people smile and quickly eat. Once Rochelle jumped out of the car at two men. I swear they thought she was kidnapping them. Once they realized what she was doing they were very happy and truly appreciative. One man was digging in the garbage cans. Rochelle jumped out at him too. Later we saw him eating while he was digging in another trash can. I glanced at my kids in the rearview mirror several times and these were priceless moments I’ll never forget!
Next we set out for Starbucks. Rochelle let her card run for a while and then I followed. We tried to hide in a corner, but the cashier was telling people we paid for their things. These people were different from those we had just served, but the appreciation and kindness was still very present! The cashier was also giving discounts to the customers which helped us to spread our kindness even more!
The grocery store was the next stop and we paid for customer’s groceries. The store was dead and it was tough waiting for people to check out. Once again, the cashier was giving nice discounts since we were paying, which kept the kindness going longer still!
We found a fun and perfect McDonalds for the next spot. We told him to run the card a few times and he came back with some receipts of $3 and $.71. McDonalds is very inexpensive. We told him to let it ride! He would find us after about every 5 transactions and we kept saying to keep going. He was having so much fun and so were we. Alex and Ellie bought cookies and took them around the lobby and then we finished giving the rest of the cookies to the people in the bank down the road.
We finished the day having lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. There was a group of service men and women and we paid for their lunches anonymously. We then left our waitress a nice tip on the way out! The day was amazing! There was no other way to describe it!
A few months ago I read a book called “Spirit Driven Success” by Dani Johnson. This book hit me hard and provided much clarity in my life. Especially around money. It reminded me that all of the money is God’s money, not my money. It is all His. Sure I am able to provide for my family and have nice things, but underneath all of it is Jesus, the King of the Marketplace! The epiphany was that when I truly give him his full percentage in a joyful way, he will continue to give more and more because the money is being used for His Glory. Sounds too simple. Right? He wants you to double your business and he wants you to ask big and think even bigger than you are now!
This day we had doing random acts of kindness was a very easy and small thing that provided us more joy than those we were giving to. Yet another reason to do it bigger, better, and more and more often!
There were also immediate successes that happened within a few hours that day to Rochelle and I. She returned to the office and had 5 really good leads come in while we were out! If you are a sales agent in real estate you know this is special and not common! She is a rock star agent, but even she said she has never had 5 good leads in one day ever! I was excited for her and loved hearing the story. I had no leads but I always have the faith that I will be taken care of because I always am! Not long after, I received an inquiry to help with a very nice listing and I got an email from an agent that wants to refer me a listing and they are going to buy after they sell! I told them I would love to help!
As we begin 2015, I am awestruck about some of the clarity I have been given. My words to live by this year are “To Whom Much is Given, Much Will be Required-Luke 12:48 Powerful and yet scary words to live up to. Good thing I have Grace along with everything else :)
